See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil

There comes a time in your career, when you don't want (certain) people to read your thoughts, desires, bad hair day anecdotes. We all grow up. I would love to continue in a more anonymous format but we shall see...keep your ears and eyes uncovered xxx

Working In Fashion

So this post isn't strictly fashion related, as in there's no pretty clothes but I'm sure if you work in fashion you will like the sentiment.

I love my email updates from Stylist magazine's online portal Emerald Street. This morning's featured the Rules Of Assertiveness. Even though I know the sentiments to be true myself, I don't think there are many companies which allow you to exercise these rules and see it as you being "assertive". But don't take my word for it, print out a copy for your boss and see how they react - kidding...that would end badly...

The rules of assertiveness
I have the right to state my own needs and set my own priorities as a person independently of any roles that I may assume in my life.
I have the right to be treated with respect as an intelligent, capable, equal person.
I have the right to express my feelings.
I have the right to express my opinions and values.
I have the right to say “yes” or “no” for myself.
I have the right to make mistakes.
I have the right to change my mind.
I have the right to say I don’t understand.
I have the right to have the right to ask for what I want.
I have the right to decline responsibility for other people’s problems.
I have the right to deal with others without being dependent on them for approval.

Meadham Kirchhoff Embellished Jumper

Meadham Kirchhoff Embellished Jumper just came through on a newsletter from Yoox.com. I love it!

I arrived back from the US yesterday and noticed that while I've been gone, it's turned to winter in the UK. Time to dig out the knitwear, this jumper would be a welcome addition to my wardrobe.

For £440 you can buy it here.

Just Because

Urban Outfitters stole this from Pintrest for their blog and I've stolen it from them. Just because it made me smile.

I'm in Miami

I have a confession, for a fashion blog I haven't put that many updates about fashion week this time around. In my defence, I'm stateside and a little bit busy, plus you can get them all on style.com so you don't really need me. But you might want to know more about the shopping in Miami and LA so I'll try and keep you updated on that instead. xx

Ain't No Wifey T-shirt

Ain't No Wifey T-shirt by Dimepiece Designs, LA.

This image is apt today for so many reasons;

  1. I'm in America, about to go to LA, the home place of the brand Dimepiece Designs, that made this T-shirt
  2. Dimepiece Designs "create garments that express and embody female empowerment".
  3. I ain't your wifey
  4. Such a cool pic right?

Organic By John Patrick

Organic By John Patrick was one of the first of the spring summer 13 catwalk shows to take off in New York today. How can you not love this collection, so simple yet the shapes are so wearable and classic. Easy elegance that makes me think of Parisian girls and their nonchalance.

Alaïa Studded Ankle Boots

Alaïa Studded ankle boots are out of stock in my size so I don't know why I'm still thinking about them, but if you're a size 7, you're so lucky. Get to the Outnet!

Jacquard Trousers

Jacquard trousers with matching jackets were a huge hit on the Prada catwalk for Autumn Winter 2012. If you're like me and these are on your lust list but your budget doesn't quite stretch to Prada then check out the ones below from Primark. Not bad! I'm not sure how much they are, but lets face it they won't be more than £20.

Love Getting Home

Love Getting Home is the sister blog I've just started for all the beautiful things that can't be worn but come under the title "home". There's a few posts up already with more to follow, sneak a peek here

Balenciaga Pink Coat

Balenciaga Pink Coat doesn't have the same impact on picture as it does in store. It's made from virgin wool so will keep you nice and warm, practicality box ticked. It manages to get that tricky shade of bubblegum pink exactly right so not too barbie but still quirky rather than girly. It's £995, which considering a dress from Balenciaga costs around £1500 makes it quite reasonable if you use my cost per wear calculations. Lets face it, come winter you may as well not bother spending your money on nice clothes as all most people see are your coat. At least that's how I would convince myself it's a valid expenditure.

Let me know if you see a cheaper alternative because I have looked and not found. Vintage might be the way to go.

Winter is coming...

So I've been away for a few weeks getting non stop sunshine in beautiful Greece, where the sun shines all day every day and the daily temperature is 33 degrees. Bliss. Arriving back in London I was pleasantly surprised to find it ain't that cold yet but the last few days I've noticed a shift in the air. I can feel winter coming. Now I know that first comes Autumn but it's winter that I can feel. I'm compiling my Christmas list already.

One of the things I love about the turn of the seasons is the new advertising campaigns. There are some good ones out there at the moment and the brands seem to have tapped into using the right kind of celebrity to front their campaigns. Women that we like and want to be like rather than faceless supermodels.

First up there is Mila Kunis for Dior. She is the kind of girl you would like to be your friend as she comes across as fun and not up herself. At the same time, there is a reason why she always gets the vixen roles in films. She has that "je ne sais quoi" that makes a woman indelibly sexy but you don't hate her for it. Angelina has the same "je ne said quoi" but we're still Team Aniston all these years later if you see what I mean...Mila is a womans woman is what I'm twittering on about..

Next up is Chloe Sevigny for Miu Miu. When Sevigny fronted a campaign for Miu Miu the first time around in 1996 (was it really that long ago?) it worked so well that why not repeat it? Her unique and personal style is totally Miu Miu and I would be happy to see her face in their clothes every season. Lush video.

Special mention goes to Topshop for using Louise Gray to model her own collection. I once saw her sat in reception of the ASOS offices and felt like I had to say "Hi" to her (as if we've met before) just because I was so enchanted by her glittery eye make up, streaky hair and her "fell into a dressing up box but came out looking fabulous" outfit. So really who better to show off her designs for Topshop and the make up range that sits alongside it?

Perhaps only Susie Lau can compete, she's done an amazing post on this with her wearing the collection. Check it out here.

YSL's New Logo

New Saint Laurent Paris logo

The iconic logo
Hedi Slimane as the new creative director at Yves Saint Laurent has updated the YSL logo to bring the brand into the future. I hate the whole idea of this from start to finish. The YSL logo is iconic and beautiful which makes it timeless, updating it is not necessary "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Chanel Espadrilles

Chanel espadrilles were my downfall of the week. Downfall as in the thing I couldn't resist because the voice in my head kept goading me on, you know the one that says "if you don't buy me now, you will regret it forever, and I'll always live on in your heart and in your memories but I will never be there waiting for you in your wardrobe". But on the other hand, it's a windfall that I managed to secure a pair in the colour I like as they sold out quite awhile ago, thanks ebay. Downfall or windfall then? Well there are a few ways of looking at it;
  1. I have no money so buying anything Chanel is rather foolhardy.
  2. Investment piece? Yes I know canvas and straw don't seem like they would age well but you never know...
  3. I might get hit by a bus tomorrow, which considering the state I've just left my overdraft in could be the ideal solution, I could sue the bastards.

Lanvin Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Lanvin Fall 2012 Ad Campaign, shot by Steven Meisel, uses "real people" - that's us - aged from 18-80 to bring the clothes to life. As fashion lovers shift their focus from looking at magazines and catwalks and gather inspiration from blogs and people they see on the tube i.e. "real people", both designers and the advertising world are taking note and following suit.

Lanvin has become so much fun since Alber Elbaz took the reins, this video just goes to prove it.

Tassel Loafers

Tassel loafers found themselves on my "things to buy" list this week. I don't know if living in Chelsea has finally infiltrated my fashion sense and I'm turning into a sloaney pony, but I prefer to think I'm wearing them in an ironic manner. I wanted some really obnoxious green suede ones with massive tassels, to add to the irony you see.

These Dolce Vita ones were the most masculine I could find in coloured suede.

Gucci Sao Paulo Bag

Gucci has opened a store in Sao Paulo, Brazil and to celebrate they have released this Brazilian inspired bag with Parrot motif. It's the perfect carry on to the plane bag for your summer holiday.

ASOS High Five Platform Bow Sandals

ASOS HIGH FIVE Platform Bow Sandals, £50, also available in black!

Perhaps not the appropriate shoe to take me through the intermittent down pours of this british summer since they're velvet but I couldn't resist treating myself to these shoes this week. We'll see if we make friends when they arrive.

Furla Candy Bag

Furla candy bag slipped under my fashion radar so I don't think there's any chance of me getting my hands on this limited edition one in pale pink with snakeskin trim.

There are plenty of other shades to choose from and some glittery pastel ones if you fancy a reminder of the jelly shoes you used to have as a kid. You know you miss them...

Maison Martin Margiela Couture

Maison Martin Margiela had it's first couture collection yesterday. The brand took one of their signature principals of using reclaimed objects to create this collection which resulted in a highly creative 'artisan' look, truly befitting of the nature of Couture.

Wouldn't have fancied being one of the models though with those bloody crystal face masks! Hazardous!

Knicker Shorts - Is Anybody Actually Wearing This Trend??

ASOS Petite Exclusive Gingham Knicker Shorts £12.50
ASOS Knicker Short Playsuit With Mirror Applique £22.50
ASOS Heart Print Knicker Shorts £20
ASOS PU Floral Print Knicker Shorts £16

Knicker shorts are one of this summers micro trends, many glossies have done features on them with images of celebrities like Jessie J alongside, showing you how to wear them. I think if I was going to be performing on stage, knicker shorts would be a perfectly feasible trend for me to adopt.

ASOS have some beautiful styles and I'd love to get on board but there are few things stopping me.
  1. My modesty. Yes I do have some. It's bad enough the leching you get from wearing a short-ish skirt never mind shorts this close to your bum.
  2. This glorious british summer. Freezing!
  3. Fear. I have this image of Lucy Mecklenburgh from TOWIE firmly imprinted on my brain. Slim size 6/8 girl walking down the street in hot pants looking fabulous, camera zooms in to show off her fantastic bum, instead we get an eyeful of the cellulite that lurks towards the top of the thighs.
If you are braver than I am, or if you're planning a holiday to Cuba (don't ask me why but I can see myself in Cuba wearing some of these, but nowhere else), then take your pick. You'll probably get a bargain too as most of them are in the sale.

Prada AW12 Advertising Campaign

Prada AW12 Advertising Campaign has set my heart racing. Flared trousers, rubber soled shoes, lots of embellishment and austere looking doctors bags. The appliqué daisies that feature on bags and brogues are on my want list. The candy coloured pink coat would also be a welcome addition to the wardrobe.

Prada is going from strength to strength with a reported 47% increase in sales in the first part of this year and increased sales in shoes and handbags in particular. I love it when a brand that is doing something a bit different and quirky is doing really well commercially too.
