The September Issue

Its thefilm for all those that are curious about the ice queen reputation of Anna Wintour, those that are curious to the inner working of Vogue magazine and for those that just want to see some beautiful dresses on stunning models. For fashionistas - ll you ASOS life people -this movie is a must see. I loved it, I loved the cringe worthy parts when Anna Wintour incited the fear of god into all the employees. Thank god the fashion world isn't quite so brutal here at ASOS! You also get to see the amazing shoots because they never make the final cut. FYI the best shots are the ones thy don't give to us as they believe they are not as commercial. If only I had a hotline to Anna Wintour, I would tell her that us fashion lovers don't want to see 20 pages on Sienna Miller we want to see the breathtaking shoots of Galliona that got cut to make space for the celebrities! Although this is a celeb culture generation for those that love fashion its about the clothes not the name and it always will be. If we want celebs we buy Heat not Vogue.

Theres hope for us all...

Lauded as the two most influential people in fashion today Anna Wintour, editor of American Vogue and Carine Roitfeld, editor of French Vogue are forever being papped and featured in magazines for their fashion credentials. In a world as fickle as fashion where appearance is everything I can't help but thinking theres an elephant in the room. These two women have every designer at their feet and the latest collections before they even hit the runway in their wadrobes and yet what the hell are they wearing! Anna Wintour with her 'trademark bob' (noone should keep the same hairstyle for over ten years trademark or not) always seems to be dressed like some WASP and Carine Roitfeld is famous for only wearing black, it also seems being an editor doesnt leave her anytime to indulge in some very fashion botox. There is evidence that they can pull that outfit out of the bag sometimes but for the most part they stick to what they think they do best which are positively uninspiring outfits.
Working in the fashion industry from the bottom up is all about meeting the right people and getting yourself noticed. I wouldn't take anybody seriously in my office who wasn't dressed fashionably. Like I always say if you can't dress yourself then you shouldn't be telling other people how to dress. But what a relief to think that once you get to a certain level people respect your talents over how you look. Unfortunately this doesn't apply to models sorry! Except maybe Kate Moss who is slowly losing her looks but can still sell a product better than any other model out there.
I'm off to see the September issue so maybe I will have to take all this back if Anna Wintour shocks me with some very fashiony outfits.

The alternative to bodycon

The silhouette seen predominantly on the catwalks is still bodycon but how does that work in everyday life? Well firstyl bodycon can be a little too racy for work and second it takes no prisoners. Some days you just want to hide behind your clothes a bit and hareem pants that taper in at the ankle provide a modern silhouette still in tune with fashion but without baring all. Mine are from Mango at ASOS.com. Worn with an old drapy h&m top - the shops are full of drapy skirts/tops right now and the trusty tweed blazer again. Not a knockout outfit but its comfy whilst staying relevant.

1940s

The 40s are back for autumn winter so my tweed blazer and this long floral dress (charity shop find) do the job for me. All thats missing is a little felt hat but its not old enough for that yet, bring on the winter!

Japanese again!

I spied the title of a fashion article, unfortunately didn't have enough time to bloody read it, but apparently trend predictions coming hot off the SS10 catwalks are showing a japanese/oriental style revival. I mean it must have been a whole season since we had that trend?! Anyway suits me since I love all things oriental. I pulled out this dress from my wadrobe, £15 French Connection sale a few years ago, pulled it in with an obi belt and added my statement necklace from Primarni for £4. Bargain and it has the power to cunnigly transform a plain T-shirt into an embellished top. The dress pulled a lot of comments that day apparently the colour is very on trend which I did not know. Must be slacking.

Japanese

I may have mentioned my new fascination is with Japanese boys. If I could be a skinny japanese boy right now I would grow a goatie and a ponytail and walk around with my oversized man bag and some odd comme des garcons style tailoring. As it is I cannot get my boobs to go flatter (I have tried) so I'm not quite there yet but my look is a homage.

Clerkenwell Vintage Fair

Last Sunday (yes I know this is now old news but its my first oppurtunity to blog this week) I took myself off to the Clerkenwell vintage fair. It was such a nice Sunday activity, even though I had to keep myself reigned in and not spend any money since I'm poor just looking around made me happy. I did by myself two hats which I will make sure I wear and take a photo of soon since they are fabulous. This was a fair for the die hard vintage fan with real stamina as every corner you walked around opened up into another room of stalls and then there was a second floor! My favourite piece of the day was a perspex box bag covered in strange and wonderful charms glued on like fridge magnets all over. So unusual but at £59 and not at all practical I had to forgoe the chance to put this on my fashion shelf. Hopefully there will be another one soon when Im a bit less poor!

People Tree at ASOS

People Tree is not only good for the conscience being eco, ethical and all that jazz but is also looking really fashionable for autumn winter. I picked these off ASOS, they are great workwear pieces as the weather gets colder. I especialy like the Richard Nicholl for people tree Handwoven silk maxi dress with the ruffle detail on the collare. Really unusual and so chic its been reduced to £96. Must resist.

New Store to check out - Pull and Bear Oxford Street

Wearing my new wool check hareem trousers from Pull and Bear. Although I had heard the name before - Pull and Bear is part of Inditex (the Zara group) - I'd never seen the product but they have recently opened a flagship store on Oxford Street with a window that had enough pulling power to get me in. What I found was pleasantly surprising, elements of Zara's younger collection but a strong All Saints feel without the All Saints price tag. I also bought some crinkled pleather skintight trousers to replace my £100 Topshop ones that have stretched too much to be sexy for.....£25! Naturally I couldn't leave them on the shelf for that price.

Working 9 - 5

I know you know I love my job but its those days when you can't be bothered to brush your hair or dress up that I love my job the most. Ripped jeans and some red lipstick fits in very well at ASOS towers. I'd love to say I've had these jeans since the 80s and made the rips along the way but I cheated and went to H&M. Again. Those River Island boots still haven't come off my feet they may have to be surgically removed at the end winter.

Window Shopping in Sienna

My Beautiful Boyfriend

My boyfriend will kill me for this but I just had to take a picture because I love his outfit today. This wool waistcoat was a bargain from Uniqlo teamed with some Agnes B jeans this is effortlessly stylish and makes work wear just that little bit different from the norm. Men have hit the jackpot with Uniqlo their bright skinny jeans are so much cooler than the womenswear offer and their Autumn Winter collection is great. I love their bright argyle checks and their woolen tartan loose fitting trousers tucked into Motorcycle boots, it reminds me of the brillian Comme des Garcons AW10 collection. Go take a look. mwah x

Holiday & Dr Martens

My vintage Chloe skirt, a beautiful fine knit cardigan from Kookai of all places - who knew it still existed - and my new wear all the damn time boots. River Island £75 I think. Worth every penny, I only bought them last week and I think they have already worked out at £6 a wear. Clunky boots will be everywhere this autumn winter for the ultimate Chloe are doing a collaboration with Dr Martens but they will set you back about £300. For the men DR Martens and Raf Simons have done a collaboration with some beautiful metallic boots and a new take on the chunky Dr Martens in the style of a loafer. Love love love. Check em out http://www.drmartens.com/index.asp Someone else on the high street is doing a collab with them too (must be the very in thing) making some gun metal grey pairs at an affordable price but I can't for the life of me remember who right now...will let you know.
